RICHMOND, Va. – Four Cougars have earned recognition on the 2025-26 CAA Men's Basketball Postseason Awards, highlighted by Defensive Player of the Year Chol Machot. Jlynn Counter was named to the All-CAA First Team while Christian Reeves earned All-CAA Third Team and All-Defensive Team honors. Chris Davis Jr. rounded out the selections with a spot on the CAA All-Rookie Team. Charleston's four honorees are the most of any team in the league.
Redshirt-sophomore Machot notched Defensive Player of the Year after being one of the nation's top rim protectors. The Cougars' big man swatted away 77 shots, good for fifth in the country. The Australian center logged six or more blocks in a game on four occasions this season, including a season-high seven against Elon to close out the 2025 calendar year. Machot's four outings with six or more blocks are the most in a single season since William & Mary's Nathan Knight produced four of his own in 2018. The redshirt sophomore also chipped in 8.9 points and 5.6 rebounds per game. Machot is the first player in program history to earn CAA Defensive Player of the Year honors and the second player all-time to earn Defensive Player of the Year following Jeremy Simmons receiving the SoCon honor in 2010.
Counter earns All-CAA First Team honors after finishing the regular season averaging 15.9 points per game, 5.1 rebounds per game, and 5.6 assists per game. The Oklahoma City native collected four CAA Player of the Week awards during the season, the most of any player in the league, as the only player in the CAA to rank in the top ten in scoring, assists, and steals per game. The point guard led the league in assists (169) and assists per game (5.6) while ranking 33rd and 34th nationally in the same statistic, respectively. He set new career-highs in point (29 vs. Drexel), rebounds (11 vs. Northern Kentucky), and assists (11 vs. Northeastern) this season, scoring 20+ points on 11 different occasions. The Cougars' "closer", Counter went on several personal late second half runs this season to lead Charleston to victory. He is the tenth player in program history to be named to the All-CAA First Team. This is the fourth straight season the program has had a representative on the First Team.
Reeves was named to the All-CAA Third Team after leading the league in field goal percentage through conference play. The redshirt-junior ended the regular season averaging 11.0 points per game and 7.9 rebounds per game with eight double-doubles. The Charlotte native recorded career-highs in nearly every statistical category, including a career-high 29 points and 18 rebounds vs. Elon on his way to CAA Player of the Week honors. The center grabbed at least ten rebounds on ten separate occasions to lead the Cougars rebounding efforts.
Davis Jr. earns a spot on the All CAA-Rookie. The Madison, Wisconsin native averaged 7.7 points per game and 2.7 rebounds per game in his rookie season. He achieved a string of career milestones after moving into the starting lineup on February 12, including his first career double-double at North Carolina A&T with 11 points and ten rebounds, and setting two new career scoring highs in the final three games of the season. He averaged 13.0 points and 5.5 rebounds per game in the Cougars' 2-0 week on the road to end the season with CAA Rookie of the Year honors. The freshman guard notched a season-best 17 points in a come-from-behind win at UNCW, knocking down a trio of triples down the stretch, including a game-tying trey with 3:17 remaining. He is the seventh player in program history to earn CAA All-Rookie honors.
The Cougars will be the No. 2 seed in the upcoming 2026 Air Force Reserve CAA Men's Basketball Championship in Washington, D.C. Charleston will start play on Sunday, March 8 at 6:00 p.m. vs. the winner of No. 7 Towson and No. 12 Hampton at CareFirst Arena.
