Sam Gjormand was promoted to General Manager on Feb. 20, 2025 after spending the first three seasons as the team's Director of Baseball Operations and Executive Assistant to the Head Coach. Upon her arrival, Charleston made Gjormand a countable coach and had her on the road recruiting in the summer of 2022.
Gjormand becomes the first female GM in Division I college baseball and only the second individual to hold the title.
In addition to continuing to oversee the program's budget and coordinating all travel accommodations, Gjormand will also oversee and coordinate all fundraising events and Name, Image and Likeness (NIL) opportunities for the baseball program.
James Madison University
- Spent four seasons as a student manager with the baseball program at James Madison University
- Was responsible for both on and off the field duties such as set up and break down, while assisting with video
- Also oversaw all other student managers for the team
- Spent the summer of 2021 as the Assistant to the GM and MLB Scout Liaison for the Wareham Gateman in the Cape Cod League
“Sam is a big-league hire for the College of Charleston,” Hall of Fame and former Mississippi State head baseball coach Ron Polk said. “She was invaluable to me in the Cape Cod League this summer and her career is taking off fast. She will be a star in our game for a long time and have a huge impact on the College of Charleston baseball program.”
The Vienna, Va., native attended James Madison High School where her father, Mark Gjormand, is the varsity head baseball coach with more than 400 career wins under his belt.
