Mantoris Robinson

Mantoris Robinson

Mantoris Robinson (pronounced MAN-TORE-us) is in his third season as an assistant coach at the College of Charleston.

Robinson joined the Cougars in May of 2018 from Appalachian State University, where he spent four years as an assistant coach to head coach Jim Fox.

“Mantoris is a great asset to our staff, because of his selflessness, work ethic and team-first approach,” CofC Head Coach Earl Grant said. “He has established himself as a strong recruiter over the past eight years and has always had a high IQ for the game. He understands what it takes to win.”

A former two-time Big South Conference Defensive Player of the Year, Robinson played for Gregg Marshall and Earl Grant, then an assistant coach, at Winthrop University from 2006-10. He helped the Eagles to NCAA Tournament appearances in each of his four seasons.

The only player in Big South history to be honored as Defensive Player of the Year on two occasions in 2009 and 2010, Robinson was also tabbed Big South Tournament MVP as a senior. During his freshman campaign in 2006-07, he came off the bench and was a defensive stopper for a Winthrop squad which won 29 games, finished the regular season ranked No. 22 in the nation and upset Notre Dame in the NCAA opening round.

Prior to App State, Robinson spent two seasons at Fairmont State University in West Virginia. During his time at Fairmont State, he helped lead the Falcons to back-to-back 20-win seasons including a 23-9 overall record and a NCAA Division II Tournament appearance in 2012-13. In his two seasons at FSU, Robinson coached five all-conference selections.

Robinson also has previous coaching experience serving as a volunteer assistant at his alma mater Butler High School in Charlotte, N.C., where he was an all-state and all-conference performer and helped lead his team to a 28-3 mark as a senior. He also played one season of basketball at Fork Union Military Academy.

Originally from Charlotte, Robinson graduated from Winthrop with a bachelor’s degree in business in 2010. He later earned his master’s degree in business administration from Fairmont State in 2014. He is married to Ja'Lisa (née Bradshaw) Robinson and the couple has two children: Everly and Maxen Bernard.
