Long joins the Cougars from Mississippi College, where he served five years as head coach of the women's program. In his time with the Choctaws, Long led the program to their first two winning seasons since returning to Division II. He also coached Mississippi College to three conference tournament berths and their first regional ranking back in Division II.
Prior to Mississippi College, Long was the head coach of the women's team at University of Arkansas Monticello in 2019-2020 where he led the team to a 20-11 record and the program's best start since 1977 (7-0). Long also helped the Weevils earn their first national ranking in the NCAA era and led them to their first 20 win season in over 10 years. Additionally, Long coached the GAC Defender of the Year and led the squad to its first win over a ranked opponent in the GAC era.
Long also spent time as the associate head coach of the women's basketball team at University of Central Arkansas from 2015-2019. During his tenure with the Bears, Long assisted the program to an overall record of 91-37 and a 52-20 conference record (Southland). In the 2017-18 campaign, Central Arkansas was the WBI Runner-Up, won its first ever NCAA Division I postseason tournament game, finished second in the national in scoring defense and earned at least 25 wins for the third consecutive year. Long was also a part of four total Southland Conference tournament championships while at Central Arkansas.
Long was the head coach of the Trinity Catholic High School girls program in 2013-14 where he led the team to a 19-9 overall record and a 9-1 district record. Under his guidance, the squad won the district championship, advanced to the state tournament and finished with the No. 10 ranking in the state of Florida. After the year, Long was voted to be the head coach of the FABC Girls All Star game.
In 2010-12, Long was an assistant coach for the women's team at Delta State where he assisted the program to an overall record of 50-11 and a 24-4 mark in the Gulf South conference. He was a part of two conference championships and helped the Lady Statesmen to two NCAA Tournament berths and a Sweet 16 appearance in 2011. The 2010-11 squad led the nation in scoring defense and was ranked No. 1 in the country for seven weeks, ultimately finished the season ranked 5th in the nation. Long also recruited and coached four All-Americans at Delta State.
Prior to Delta State, Long spent two years as the head coach for the boy's basketball team at Trinity Catholic High School (2008-10). While at the helm of the program, Long led the squad to a 30-21 overall record and a 14-1 district record.
