CofC Remains Atop SoCon

College of Charleston continues its reign atop the Southern Conference as the Cougars defeated Furman 3-2 (27-30, 30-21, 16-30, 30-20, 17-15) in volleyball action on Saturday afternoon in Greenville, S.C.
Emily Sawin paced Charleston (18-6, 12-1 SoCon) with 18 digs on .196 hitting. She added 11 digs for her ninth double-double of the season. Deanna Patrick followed with 13 kills, with three digs and a service ace.
Tiffany Blum and Sarah Voss tallied 12 kills apiece. Blum hit a team-high .320 as she notched five blocks and four digs. Voss recorded four digs and two blocks.
Marie Dobrenz came up with 24 digs to lead the Cougars' defensive effort, followed by Alexis Lowes with 13 and Megan Parkerson with 12. Lindsey Kane dished out 50 assists.
Nicole Palazzo led Furman (14-10, 10-3 SoCon) with a match-high 20 kills. She also had 17 blocks. Kim Tonkin anchored the Lady Paladins' defense with 23 digs. Courtney Stewardson had 60 assists.
Charleston hit .173 as a team, while Furman hit a .225 clip. Both teams had five service aces apiece, but Furman recorded 15 service errors.
The Cougars will take a break from conference action as they travel to Conway, S.C., to face Coastal Carolina on Oct. 31 at 7 p.m. Charleston resumes SoCon play on Nov. 1 against Georgia Southern in Statesboro, Ga
