CofC Drops Pair to Gamecocks

The College of Charleston dropped a pair of games ? 7-2 in game one and 11-0 in game two ? to South Carolina in softball action on Thursday at Patriots Point Field in Mt. Pleasant, S.C.

The Gamecocks, who had seven unearned runs in the first game, improved to 10-2 overall, while the Cougars fell to 5-6.

Katie Pesature led the College of Charleston at the plate on 1-for-1 hitting with an RBI, and Izmena Cabrera hit her third home run of the season as she went 1-for-3 at the plate with two RBI.

Ashton Payne and Jessica Josker led South Carolina on 2-for-4 hitting with both scoring a run and having an RBI.

Melissa Hendon improved to 2-1 in the circle as she gave up two hits and allowed two runs. She struck out 15.

Terri Mesko (3-2), in five innings of work, allowed seven hits and stuck out three.

Kate Pouliot, who improved to 6-0 on season, led the Gamecocks to an 11-0 five-inning win in the second game of the doubleheader. She gave up two hits, four walks and stuck out four.

Becky Martinez led South Carolina at the plate on 3-for-4 hitting with a run scored and two RBI.

Amber Shifflett was 2-for-3 at the plate for the Cougars.

The Cougars travel to Kennesaw, Ga., this weekend to face Kennesaw State and Liberty in the Kennesaw Invitational. Charleston will face host Kennesaw State at 1 p.m., before taking on Liberty at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
