
Cardinal blank Cougars in tourney closer, 5-0

Palo Alto, Calif. ?- Five fifth-inning runs pushed ninth-ranked Stanford over the College of Charleston, 5-0 in the final game of the Stanford softball Classic from Smith Family Stadium Sunday afternoon.
The Cougars finish the weekend 0-6 and fall to 9-19 overall. The Cardinal improve to 27-2 overall.
Kristie Shifflett had the Cougars lone hit on the day when she smacked a single to right in the top of the seventh.
Terri Mesko (3-8) pitched through seven innings with three strikeouts and five earned runs. Missy Penna (17-2) pitched a complete game. She struck out four batters.
