Andrew Goudelock (Lilburn, Ga.) scored 18 points while teammates Tony White, Jr. (Knoxville, Tenn.) and Donavan Monroe (Waxhaw, N.C.) added 16 each leading the College of Charleston to a 100-87 Southern Conference win over Georgia Southern before 3,718 at Carolina First Arena on Saturday.
With the win, the Cougars improved to 11-3 overall and 3-1 in SoCon play. Georgia Southern fell to 4-8 and 2-2.
In the first half, both teams got off to quick starts, as the game went back and forth for the first 12 and a half minutes. With the score tied at 31-all at the 7:42 mark, the Cougars went on a 21-10 run over the final seven minutes of the period to take a 52-41 lead going into intermission. The rally was capped off by a Goudelock running jumper in the lane at the buzzer that gave the Cougars the double digit advantage.
For the half, Goudelock led all scorers with 18 points after posting a torrid shooting performance from both the field (7-8) and the three-point line (3-4). \White Jr. added 14 points, as the Cougars shot an impressive 55.9 percent from the field in the period.
In the second half, the Cougars took control of the contest from the start, as they went on a 6-0 run in the first two minutes of the period to extend their lead to 58-41. Charleston eventually built 81-59 lead with 11:43 left.
For the game, Goudelock, Monroe and White Jr. were three of the six Charleston players who registered double-digit scoring nights. Dustin Scott (Jamestown, S.C.) and Antwaine Wiggins (Greeneville, Tenn.) finished with 13 points each, while Jermaine Johnson (Los Angeles, Calif.) rounded out the Cougar double-digit scorers with 12 points. Marcus Hammond (Memphis, Tenn.) chipped in with nine and dished out a career-high eight assists. Monroe finished with a career-high point total and added four rebounds.
For Georgia Southern, Antonio Hanson tallied a game-high 25 points in the losing effort.
The College of Charleston returns to action on Monday, Jan, 12th, when they host Samford at 7 p.m.
