
Women's Basketball Gearing up to Host UNC Greensboro

The College of Charleston women's basketball team opens Southern Conference play with a Saturday, Dec. 5th matchup with UNC Greensboro. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. at the Carolina First Arena, just after the men's basketball team hosts Davidson at 4 p.m.
UNCG owns the 19-9 record over CofC, but the Cougars have won the last three out of four meetings, including a 71-51 decision Jan. 26, 2009. After the Spartans won 14 in a row against the Cougars, Charleston has taken the last seven of 11 games.
UNC Greensboro is 1-5 with its lone win coming in the season opener, an 85-68 win against Morgan State. Amanda Leigh leads the Spartans with 10.2 points a game, while Agne Girstautaite paces the team in rebounds with 5.3 a game.
Charleston is 4-3 after dropping a 57-53 decision at Coastal Carolina Dec. 2nd. Brooke Kotcella (Anderson, S.C.) led the Cougars in the game with 15 points, while Deidra Jones (Irmo, S.C.) added seven rebounds.
The Cougars are led this season by Tonia Gerty (Port Orange, Fla.), who has 13.1 points per game. Two other Cougars are averaging in double-figures with Jade Hughes (Spartanburg, S.C.) at 12.7 and Jones at 10.4 ... Jones' 8.6 rebounds per game is a team-leader.
Charleston opened Southern Conference play with the Spartans last season as well, falling to UNCG, 55-70. The Cougars are 5-6 in SoCon season openers.
