
CofC Earns 23rd Win; Downs Furman 69-58 in Season Finale

Donavan Monroe (Waxhaw, N.C.) scored 15 points and pulled down a career-high tying seven rebounds while teammate Tony White, Jr. (Knoxville, Tenn.) added 12 points as the College of Charleston ended its regular season with a 69-58 win over Furman in Southern Conference basketball action before 3,928 at Carolina First Arena on Saturday.
Charleston, which has won five in a row and seven of eight, improved to 23-7 overall and 15-5 in league play. Furman, which closes out its regular season with a 7 p.m. tipoff at Wofford on Monday, fell to 6-22 and 4-15.
Both teams played good defense in the first half as the Cougars took a 32-24 lead at intermission. Charleston shot 35.5 percent from the floor, while the Paladins shot 25.0 percent.
In the second half, the Paladins stayed within striking distance early but a 21-8 Charleston run gave the Cougars their largest advantage at 63-42 with 6:01 left. Furman answered quickly scoring the game's next 13 points to close to within 63-55 with 1:27 remaining on a jumper by Neil Duval. The Cougars hit six of their final seven free throw attempts down the stretch to earn the win.
For Charleston, senior Jermaine Johnson (Los Angeles, Calif.) recorded his eighth double-double of the season and the 28th of his career with 10 points and a game-high 10 rebounds. Andrew Goudelock (Lilburn, Ga.) had nine points while Dustin Scott (Jamestown, S.C.) added six points and nine boards.
The Paladins got a team-high 13 points from Jordan Miller and 10 points from Brandon Sebirumbi. Duval and Miller added a team-high seven rebounds each, respectively.
Furman shot just 37.3 percent from the floor for the game, a season-low for a Charleston opponent. The Cougars hit on just 39.3 percent of their field goal chances. Charleston held a 46-41 rebounding edge.
