Andrew Goudelock scored 29 points while Tony White, Jr. added 24 as the College of Charleston held on for a 93-91 win over Troy in opening round action of the 2009 College Basketball Invitational at Trojan Arena on Wednesday.

The Cougars, who improved to 27-8 overall, travel to Richmond on Monday.  Game time has not been determined.  Troy ends the season with a 19-13 record.

Charleston led by 19 early in the second half but were outscored 34-16 over the first 13 minutes and led by only one, 72-71, with 7:14 remaining.  The Cougars increased their lead to five again on several occasions down the stretch but Troy was able to tie the game, 89-89, with 19 seconds remaining off a free throw by Richard Delk.  The tied would not last as Charleston took the lead for good, connecting on its final four-of-six free throws to secure the 93-91 win.

It was all College of Charleston in the first half as the Cougars connected on 13 three-pointers to build a 19-point, 56-37 lead heading into intermission.

Goudelock, with his 29 points, eclipsed the 1,000-point mark for his career.  Following White, Jr., and his 24 points was Dustin Scott who added eight points on the night and a team-leading eight rebounds.

Charleston went 16-for-34 from beyond the three-point arc to tie a school record for most three-pointers in a game.  Charleston last posted 16 three- pointers, going 16-of-33 in a 79-78 overtime loss to Chattanooga Feb. 22, 2003.  The most three-pointers the Cougars had scored before tonight in the postseason was six.  Charleston did that three times, the last coming in the loss to Tulsa in the first round of the NCAA tournament Mar. 12, 1999.

The Cougars shot 54.2 percent from the field for the game, compared to 47.8 for the Trojans.  Troy out-rebounded Charleston, 38-33 and had fewer turnovers, 9-12.  Troy was 20-for-28 from the free throw line, while the Cougars were 13-for-29.

Mario Telfair led Troy with 27 points and nine rebounds.
