
CofC Downs Rival The Citadel, 61-55

Andrew Goudelock (Lilburn, Ga.) scored 22 points and pulled down a career-best 10 rebounds, while Donavan Monroe (Waxhaw,, N.C.) added a career-high 19 points leading the College of Charleston to a 61-55 Southern Conference win over rival The Citadel before 5,370 at McAlister Field House on Saturday.
Charleston, which plays at league foe Samford on Thursday at 9 p.m., improved to 9-6 overall and 4-0 in league play. The Bulldogs are 8-8 and 2-2. The Cougars recorded 10 blocks for the second straight game.
"This was a fun game in a great atmosphere," said Goudelock, who recorded the first double-double of his career. "We're having alot of fun. We're starting to really bond as a family."
Goudelock, whose long-range 3-pointer with 2.1 seconds left in regulation Monday night against 9th-ranked North Carolina sent the game into overtime in Charleston's 82-79 win over the Heels, hit the dagger trey again tonight.
Goudelock's 3-pointer from the top of the key with 36 seconds left in the game capped a 7-0 run and gave the Cougars a 59-52 lead and secured Charleston's third straight win.
Goudelock controlled the offense on 9-of-16 shooting from the field. Monroe, who knocked down 5-of-11 from the field, finished with a 4-of-7 night from beyond the arc. Combined the two hit 8-for-8 from the charity stripe. Jeremy Simmons (Lithonia, Ga.) added to his conference lead in blocked shots with four, totaling 33 on the season.
For the game, Charleston shot 46.0 percent from the field, while limiting the Bulldogs to just 39.0 percent shooting (23-59). Charleston, which committed just nine turnovers, got nine first-half points from Goudelock en route to a 27-25 lead at intermission.
Casaan Breeden (Clio, S.C.) and Simmons added seven points each for Charleston. Simmons posted four blocked shots. The Citadel was led by Cameron Wells and Joe Wolfinger who scored 14 and 11 points each, respectively.
