
Cougars to Fight for Second in SoCon with Jan. 16 Tip Against Wildcats

The College of Charleston women's basketball team hosts the Davidson Wildcats Saturday, Jan. 16 at 2 p.m. at the Carolina First Arena in a duel pitting the two second-place teams in the Southern Conference. The winner will earn sole possession of second in the standings, one game behind Chattanooga.
Davidson owns a 20-7 record in the series, but it is CofC that has won the last three meetings, all last season, including a 65-54 decision in the quarterfinals of the Southern Conference Tournament. Until last year, the Wildcats had won 13 in a row over the Cougars.
Charleston is 11-5 overall and 6-2 in the league and won its second in a row with a 65-52 victory over the Wofford Terriers Jan. 11. Brooke Kotcella (Anderson, S.C.) posted 15 points to lead the Cougars
The five losses for Charleston so far this season is the fewest in the league and the .688 winning percentage is tops. Two Cougars are averaging in double-figures in scoring this season with Jade Hughes (Spartanburg, S.C.) leading the way at 11.6. Tonia Gerty (Port Orange, Fla.) follows with 11.0. Three other Cougars are averaging over nine a game with Kotcella at 9.8, Ericka Williams (Blackville, S.C.) at 9.4 and Deidra Jones (Irmo, S.C.) with 9.3 a game. Jones leads the team in rebounds with 7.5 a game
Davidson is 8-8 overall and 6-2 in the SoCon. The Wildcats had a six-game winning streak snapped this past Monday with a close 64-62 loss to Chattanooga in Belk Arena. Ashley Lax led the team with 17 points, while Barbara Sitton pulled town a team-leading 10 rebounds. The Wildcats are led this season by Alex Thompson with 14.0 points per game, while Sophia Aleksandravicius paces the team in rebounds with 8.3 a game.
The Wildcats are second in scoring offense with 66.6 points per game, but eighth in scoring defense with 61.1. Davidson is fifth in rebounding offense with 38.8 and eighth in rebounding defense at 39.3.
Charleston is third in scoring defense in the league and second in FG percentage defense, as well as three-point field goal percentage. The Cougars are also second in assists and second in assist/turnover ratio.
