
Cougars Looking for Season Sweep of Phoenix

The College of Charleston women's basketball team continues its road trip in North Carolina with a stop Monday, Jan. 25, in Burlington for a 7 p.m. game with Elon. The Cougars, who defeated UNC Greensboro 54-50 this past Saturday, are looking to sweep the season series with Elon after having posted a 63-50 win Dec. 7. Charleston owns the 12-4 record over Elon and has won the last five meetings.
The Cougars, 13-6 overall and 8-3 in the Southern Conference, rebounded from a 66-63 overtime loss to Appalachian State Jan. 18, to open the second half of the league season with a 54-51 win at UNC Greensboro. Deidra Jones (Irmo, S.C.) scored a team-leading 13 points and 11 rebounds for her seventh career double-double and third of the year.
Four Cougars are averaging in double-figures in scoring halfway through the season with Tonia Gerty (Port Orange, Fla.) leading the way at 11.3 a game. Jade Hughes (Spartanburg, S.C.) follows with 10.8 and with 10.6 a game, Brooke Kotcella (Anderson, S.C.) is third. Ericka Williams (Blackville, S.C.) is in fourth with 10.0. Jones, who is close to double-digits with 9.5 points a game, leads the team in rebounds with 7.1 a game.
Elon is 7-12 overall and 3-8 in the Southern Conference. The Phoenix is led by Ali Ford with 16.0 points a game. Urysla Cotton leads in rebounds with 7.8 a game. Elon is coming off a 71-66 loss to Georgia Southern this past Saturday.
Elon is third in the league in scoring offense (66.3) but ninth in scoring defense (67.5). The Phoenix is ninth in three-point field goal percentage (.296), but second in three-point field goal percentage defense (.304). Elon is also third in rebounding offense (40.7) and blocked shots (4.2).
Charleston is third in scoring defense as well as in field goal percentage defense and second in assists and assist/turnover ratio.
