
Second Half Surge Lifts Cougars to 90-72 Win over Eagles

Andrew Goudelock (Lilburn Ga.) scored 20 of his 23 points in the second half, while Willis Hall (Charlotte, N.C.) and Andrew Lawrence (London, England) posted career-highs with 18 and 14 respectively, to lead the College of Charleston men's basketball team to the 90-72 win over Georgia Southern in front of 2,022 fans at Hanner Fieldhouse.
Charleston snapped a two-game losing streak and improved to 14-8 overall and 9-2 in teh Southern Conference. Georgia Southern dropped to 6-17 and 3-7.
Goudelock opened the second half with four unanswered points to turn the three-point halftime deficit into a one-point lead with 19:13 remaining and began a 24-11 run that saw the Cougars take a 10-point, 64-54 lead with 10:52 to go.
The Eagles cut the margin to eight at the 9:43 mark but that would be as close as GSU would get as a quick jumper by Goudelock gave Charleston the double-digit lead again with 9:25 on the clock. The Cougars, led by six from Goudelock and Donavan Monroe (Waxhaw, N.C.), outscored the Eagles 24-14 the rest of the half to come away with the 18-point win.
Georgia Southern took a six-point, 17-11 lead with 14:06 to go before the first half, capping off a 10-4 run, six of those coming from Antonio Hanson, by the Eagles to break away from a 7-7 deadlock. Led by five points from Lawrence, the Cougars fought back to tie the game at 23 with 8:45 remaining before intermission.
After both teams traded baskets the game was tied again at 28 with just over six to play. Georgia Southern went on a 10-3 run, led by seven from Rory Spencer, to take its largest lead of the game, 38-31, with 4:19 left. Charleston outscored the Eagles 9-5 the remainder of the half and went into the locker room only down three, 43-40.
Following Goudelock, Hall and Lawrence in double-figures was Monroe with 12 on the afternoon. Hall led the Cougars with six rebounds.
Leading Georgia Southern was Spencer with 26 points and Willie Powers with 14.
Charleston shot a season-high 57.9 percent from the field after a 65.4 percent second half performance. Georgia Southern shot 42.9. The Cougars were out-rebounded 39-27 but had four less turnovers, 15-19. CofC went 17-for-24 from the charity stripe compared to a 20-for-34 effort by Georgia Southern.
