Two South Division Leaders Clash in Spartanburg Thursday

The College of Charleston men's basketball team travels to Spartanburg, S.C. Thursday, Feb. 25, for a match-up with Wofford. The game, slated for 7 p.m. and televised on CSS, pits the top two teams in the Southern Conference South Division against each other. The Cougars and Terriers are both 13-3 in the league with two games left to play in the regular season.
Wofford owns the overall series over the College of Charleston, 72-50, but since CofC joined the league in 1998, the Cougars are 20-4, including a 70-68 decision earlier this season. Charleston has won the last seven of eight meetings with the last three games being decided by an average of two points (65-63 Jan. 15, 2009; 86-84 Feb. 26, 2009 and 70-68 Jan. 22, 2010).
Charleston is 19-9 overall and 13-3 in the Southern Conference and has won its six of its last seven games, including a dramatic 85-83 win over George Mason in the ESPN Bracket Buster Feb. 20.
Wofford is 21-8 overall and 13-3 in the league. The Terriers are one of the hottest teams in the conference, having won 17 of its last 19 games, including an 82-76 overtime win at Georgia Southern. Noah Dahlman leads the Terriers with 17.3 points per game, while Tim Johnson leads in rebounds with 7.5 a game. Charleston is led by Andrew Goudelock with 19.2 points a game. Jeremy Simmons paces the team in rebounds with 8.1 a game.
Wofford and Charleston own the best record in the Southern Conference at 13-3 each and are playing for a spot in the NIT. The team that owns the best league mark at the end of the season and does not make the NCAA tournament automatically earns a spot in the NIT tournament. North Division leader, Appalachian State, has the next best record at 11-5
Charleston ends its regular season, Sat. Feb. 27 with a 4 p.m. game at Furman. The Paladins own the overall series record 40-32, but the Cougars hold a 20-3 advantage since joining the Southern Conference in 1998. Charleston won the last meeting, 92-80, Jan. 21, 2010 and is looking for the season sweep.
