Cougars in Charlotte for Southern Conference Tournament

The College of Charleston men's basketball team begins its quest for its first Southern Conference Tournament Championship since 1999 when it takes on either Georgia Southern or Chattanooga Saturday, Mar. 6 at the Bojangles Coliseum, in Charlotte, N.C. Tip-off is slated for 30 minutes after the 7 p.m. game.
The Cougars won their only league championship in 1999, defeating Appalachian State, 77-57, to advance to its fourth NCAA tournament. Charleston has played in the SoCon Championship game four times and carry a 1-3 mark.
The College of Charleston enters the Southern Conference Tournament as the #2 seed in the South Division. The Cougars earned the first-round bye and will face either Georgia Southern or Chattanooga in the quarterfinals. They swept both the Eagles and Mocs in the regular season with the margin of victory 13.5 over GSU and 18.0 over UTC. The winner of the game will play in the semifinals Sunday, Mar 7 at 8:30 p.m. at Time Warner Cable Arena. The Eagles and Mocs square off in the first round tonight at 7 p.m.
Charleston is 20-10 overall and 14-4 in the Southern Conference and has won four out of its last five games. The Cougars ended the regular-season with at least 20 wins for the 23rd time in the last 30 years, and third of the last four.
Charleston is led by Andrew Goudelock (Lilburn, Ga.) with 19.2 points a game, while Jeremy Simmons (Lithonia, Ga.) paces the team in rebounds with 8.1 a game
The Cougars are 7-3 in their last 10 games and average 76.2 points per game, compared to 73.0 for the opposition. Charleston is shooting 34.2 percent from beyond the three-point arc and have 20 more blocks, 41-21.
The Cougars are 16-10 in Southern Conference tournament action, and went 3-1 last season, falling to Chattanooga in the championship game, 69-80. While Charleston is 3-0 over Georgia Southern in the Southern Conference tournament, the Cougars are 0-3 against Chattanooga.
