Columbia, S.C. –The College of Charleston softball team opened the Gamecock Invitational with an 8-0 win in five innings over Presbyterian, behind Hope Klicker's four-hit shut out.
The Cougars, who have won four in a row, led 1-0 in the bottom of the first after Rebecca Mueller hit a home run over the left field fence. Klicker then got out of a bases loaded jam in the top of the second and began to really bare down.
Mueller continued to terrorize the Blue Hose after bringing in Taylor Dupree and Mackenzie Maples in the bottom of the third to extend the lead to 3-0. Katie Padilla stretched the lead to 4-0 with a single of her own, bringing in Mueller.
The bats came alive again in the bottom of the fourth when Mackenzie Maples tripled to right center, plating Brianna Davis and Victoria Bratcher. Mueller then singled up the middle to bring in Maples for her fourth RBI of the game giving the CofC an 8-0 lead.
Mueller finished the day going 3-3 with one home run, four RBI's and three runs scored, continuing her hot streak that earned her CAA Player of the Week honors last week. Klicker (2-1) threw her first shutout of the season that featured seven strikeouts.
The College (4-1) will try to extend their win streak to five with two games Saturday, facing off against North Carolina at 12:30 p.m. and tournament host South Carolina in the nightcap at approximately 5:30 p.m.
