Chloe Dapp | Sailing | Junior | Newport Beach, Calif.
Junior crew Chloe Dapp (Newport Beach, Calif.) along with freshman skipper Charles Lawson Willard helped lead the College of Charleston coed sailing team to a runner-up finish at the 2016 Rose Bowl regatta hosted by Southern Cal on Jan. 2-3 at the US Sailing Center in Long Beach, Calif. The Cougars were just 11 points shy of first-place Georgetown (69 points) totaling 80 points across the two-division event for second place. It marked the program's highest finish at one of the largest regattas in the country since a runner-up finish three years ago to Stanford in 2013. CofC beat out a competitive field comprised of host USC, Boston University, Cal Poly, Long Beach State, Cornell, Fordham, Long Beach City College, MIT, Oregon State, Roger Williams, Santa Barbara City College, Santa Clara, Texas A&M-Galveston, Tufts, U.S. Coast Guard Academy, Navy, Cal, UC Irvine, UCLA, UC San Diego, UC Santa Barbara, UC Santa Cruz, Hawai'i, Oregon, UPenn, Wisconsin and Western Washington. Dapp and Willard combined for Top-5 finishes in 7-of-8 races to edge out the Hoyas to win B-Division.
Jarrell Brantley | Men's Basketball | Freshman | Columbia, S.C.
College of Charleston freshman forward Jarrell Brantley (Columbia, S.C.) led the Cougars to a 1-1 opening week in CAA play with a 65-62 first-ever road win at James Madison on Dec. 31 and close 78-70 loss at William & Mary on Jan. 2. The Cougars are playing three of the Top 4 teams in the league in their first three games of the season. Brantley averaged a team-leading 22.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.0 steals against the Dukes and Tribe combined in his CAA debut. He also shot a team-best 84 percent from the floor (21-of-25) and went 1-for-1 from beyond the arc. His career-and game-high 29 points on a personal-best 13-of-14 shooting from the field against James Madison was the fourth-highest scoring output by a CofC player this year. Brantley also reached double figures for the sixth time in the last seven games with a near double-double performance at W&M with 16 points and eight rebounds. He currently leads all freshmen rebounders through all games played in the CAA.
