Cougars Host The Citadel for Tuesday Evening Tussle

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston men's tennis team (8-5) rekindles a classic Lowcountry feud on Tuesday night at 8 p.m., when they will host The Citadel Bulldogs (10-19) at the CofC Tennis Center at Patriots Point.
The College will look to bounce back from a 5-2 loss on the road against Elon, where points from Benedikt Henning and Rodrigo Encinas in singles play weren't enough to lift the Cougars to their first CAA win of the year. Prior to hitting the road, the squad had won two consecutive matches at home, and will look for home-court advantage to help push them over the edge against The Citadel.
The Cougars and Bulldogs have played one another every year since Jay Bruner took over as head coach in 2007. During that span, CofC is 8-1 against The Citadel, with their only loss coming in Bruner's first season. In their last meeting, the Cougars swept through doubles and won five singles matches to dispatch the Bulldogs 6-1.
The Citadel has improved every season during the three-year Chuck Kriese coaching era, and have already eclipsed last season's win total of nine. The Bulldogs have played a whopping 29 matches on the season, and will play two more Tuesday as they are slated to host DePaul before taking on the Cougars. In singles, their top players have been Noah Nawabi (11-14) and Willem Jacobus von Zyl (6-6), both of whom play predominantly in the middle flights.
Admission is free of charge for all CofC home tennis matches. Live stats will be available at cofcstats.com
