CHARLESTON, S.C. - The College of Charleston men's tennis team (4-3) will take a two-match jaunt through the Bayou over the next couple of days, with the squad set to visit Nicholls State (4-3) on Sunday at 11 a.m. before dipping down to the Big Easy on Tuesday to square off with New Orleans (3-1) at 2 p.m.
It will be the first time in the Jay Bruner coaching era that the Cougars face off against either team, and will be the first time the Cougars visit the state of Louisiana since they played at Tulane in 2013.
The Cougars look to put an end to a three-game skid after starting the season 4-0. CofC has played all seven of its spring matches on the road thus far, and their swing through the Pelican State will up that to nine.
Nicholls State has been on the opposite trend as the Cougars, winning their last three consecutive matches, picking up a pair of wins over Mississippi Valley State before hitting the road to defeat Jackson State by a score of 4-2. The Colonels are led by Bernard Wezeman's 4-3 singles record in top flight play, as well as Sam Meessen's 5-2 mark in flight two. The two have teamed up in doubles play to post a 4-0 record on the year.
UNO meanwhile is 3-1 on the year, but will play two road matches against Troy and Alabama State on Sunday and Monday before returning home to host the Cougars on Tuesday. They previously faced Nicholls State this season, prevailing 5-2. Jeffrey Hsu is undefeated in top-flight play, while Luis Albuquerque in the lower flights is a combined 6-2 between singles and doubles play this year.
At the conclusion of the trip, the Cougars will return to the Lowcountry to make their long-awaited home-debut when they host Richmond on Friday.
