CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston men's tennis team (6-3) makes its long-awaited home-opener this weekend, and will host a pair of matches against Richmond (10-2) on Friday and Lynchburg College (0-4) on Saturday.
The Cougars will take on the Spiders at 10 a.m., and will face off with the Hornets at 5 p.m. the following day.
CofC comes off a 2-0 road-swing through the Pelican State with wins against Nicholls State and New Orleans. Juan Estevarena and Vasily Kichigin picked up CAA Doubles Team of the Week honors after sweeping through top flight doubles play, clinching the doubles point in both matches.
The College has never faced Lynchburg before, but has encountered Richmond once previously in the Jay Bruner coaching era back in 2015. CofC won that showdown 6-1, with Rodrigo Encinas, Vasily Kichigin and Franz Sydow all winning their singles matches.
The Spiders are 10-2 on the season, and have won their last nine consecutive matches, seven of which came on the road. In their last match, a 5-2 win at home over Binghampton, Richmond swept the doubles point before winning their top 2 and bottom 2 singles flights to emerge victorious. Jacob Dunbar is dangerous in doubles play, carrying a No. 61 collegiate ranking.
Lynchburg is 0-4 on the season, with their most recent 7-2 loss to Randolph-Macon doubling as their most competitive match of the year as well. In that match, the Hornets won their top two singles flights with Juan Borga and Bryce Barber both prevailing. They come off a 5-14 season in 2016.
