
Offensive Onslaught Helps Cougars Blitz Kent State

KENT, Ohio --- Devon Rachel (Louisville, Ky.) put down a match-high 11 kills and hit a blistering .435 to pace an impressive offensive display for the College of Charleston volleyball team, as the Cougars recorded 54 kills and only six errors in a convincing sweep of Kent State on Sunday afternoon.
College of Charleston (7-3) won the match by scores of 25-17, 25-7, and 25-17, while posting 54 kills, 50 digs, and an otherworldly .432 hitting percentage. The Cougars held Kent State (1-7) to 30 kills, 38 digs, and a .217 attacking clip.
Rachel led the way for Charleston with 11 kills and a .435 hitting percentage in only two sets. Jane Feddersen (Leesburg, Va.), Kennedy Madison (Evansville, Ind.), and Krissy Mummey (Hudson, Ohio) each tallied nine kills while all hitting above .400, as Allison Beckman (Apex, N.C.) dished out 45 digs and added eight digs. For their efforts, Rachel and Beckman were named to the all-tournament team.
McKala Rhodes posted 14 digs, four kills, two blocks, and a .667 hitting percentage after starting the match at libero before sliding to outside hitter for the third set. Freshman Logan Manusky recorded nine digs, and slotted in at libero for the third set.
Kelsey Bittinger paced the Golden Flashes with seven kills and seven digs, as Darby Connors added five smashes on 12 swings. Brittany Jakscht and Natalie Tagala tallied 11 and 10 assists, respectively, while Challen Geraghty recorded 12 digs.
The Cougars return to the court on Friday, September 15 when they host Appalachian State on the first day of the Charleston Invitational, sponsored by Hampton Inn and Suites, West Ashley. First serve is slated for 7:00 pm in TD Arena.
