
Cougars Prepped To Host Charleston Invitational This Weekend

CHARLESTON, S.C. --- The College of Charleston volleyball team will host and participate in its final tournament of the 2017 regular season when the Cougars welcome Appalachian State, Buffalo, and Mercer to TD Arena for the Charleston Invitational, sponsored by Hampton Inn and Suites, West Ashley.

Climbing the Ranks: Junior setter Allison Beckman continues to make her way toward the top of the Cougars' record books with another fine season. Entering Friday's match with Appalachian State, Beckman ranks eighth in program history with 2,597 career assists, and will move into seventh on Friday if she records eight or more assists.
Rachel on a Tear: Devon Rachel has been a primary source of offense for the Cougars over the last five matches, averaging 4.15 kills per set while posting a .281 hitting percentage. In that span, Rachel has posted a trio of double-doubles – including an 18-kill, 10-dig performance in the Cougars' thrilling comeback win over Baylor.
Feathering Feddersen: Senior Jane Feddersen has been perhaps the most efficient member of the Cougars' offense this season, and enters the weekend ranked third in the CAA with a .374 hitting percentage. The 6-foot-2 middle blocker is averaging 2.12 kills per set this season to go along with 0.67 blocks per frame. She has tallied at least seven kills in five matches, with perhaps her best performance of the season coming at Kent State with nine kills on 13 swings.
Scouting Appalachian State: The Mountaineers enter the weekend with a 4-7 record after splitting with Georgetown and North Dakota State at the NDSU Invitational last weekend. Kara Spicer leads App State with 3.26 kills per set to go along with a .365 hitting percentage and 37 blocks.
Scouting Buffalo: Buffalo comes into the tournament with a 5-3 record – including 3-2 wins over Rutgers and Georgetown. Polina Prokudina paces the Bulls with an average of 4.00 kills per set, while Megan Wernette and Kristina Nieves are tied for the team-lead with 23 blocks.
Scouting Mercer: The Bears enter the weekend with a 4-4 record after falling to Austin Peay and Ole Miss at the Ole Miss Classic last weekend. Paige Alsten leads the Mercer attack with 3.81 kills per set and a .414 hitting percentage, while also pacing the Bears with an average of 1.25 blocks per frame.
