GAME PREVIEW
Only nine short days ago, the College of Charleston men's basketball team (11-4, 2-1 CAA) opened Colonial Athletic Association play against Towson (11-5, 1-2 CAA) in what has become one of the more distinguished rivalries that has developed since joining the league in July of 2013. Seven of the last 10 meetings between both schools have been decided in single digits and twice in overtime. The Cougars and Tigers will clash once more to finish out their regular-season home-and-home meeting with each other on Sunday, Jan. 7 at 2 p.m. (ET) at SECU Arena in Towson, Md. In the first matchup of the year, CofC claimed a 73-62 win on Dec. 30 at TD Arena, jump starting its mission to be the top team in the league come March. Expect nothing short of another defensive battle as the Cougars and Tigers rank No. 1 and No. 2 in the CAA in scoring defense and field-goal percentage defense. Charleston is looking to rebound from an 87-82 overtime road loss to Drexel on Jan. 5, where preseason All-CAA First Team selections Joe Chealey (22 points) and Jarrell Brantley (20 points and 10 rebounds) each finished with 20-point outings. CofC is currently ranked No. 3, its highest ranking this season, in the latest CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top 25 Poll, while Towson is No. 14. Last season, the Cougars faced Towson and James Madison by the end of January, and this year, Towson and Delaware.
EYEING THE TIGERS
Only five of Towson's 16 games of the season have been played at home at SECU Arena where they have compiled an undefeated 5-0 record including an 89-71 victory over defending CAA champion UNCW on Jan. 5. It snapped a tough four-game skid that included road losses to Oakland, Pitt, CofC and Elon. Sophomore guard Zane Martin is the team's leading scorer averaging 18.3 points per game, which is tied for fourth-best in the league with preseason CAA Player of the Year Joe Chealey of Charleston. He was one of six players to score in double figures in the win over UNCW, which saw the Tigers shooting 54.0 percent from the field (34-of-63) and 54.5 percent (12-of-22) from long range.

COUGAR SOUND BITES
"We have to pay attention to details. We have to continue to focus on getting better in practice. In the last six-seven days it has been more game prep, since we are in the middle of a four-game stretch. There hasn't been a lot of practicing. We've only had one game in-between and haven't had two-to-three days of consecutive practices. The way you fix it – you get back in the gym and work on it. Right now, we have one more tough game before we finish out this stretch of games and it will be another quick turnaround and challenge." – CofC Head Coach Earl Grant on getting past the road loss at Drexel
"Both of them did a great job. Marquise (Pointer) really provided us with a lot of energy defensively and he gave us 14 points, which was huge. Evan (Bailey) made a couple of big shots early in the game. I was searching to find guys who could give us energy. Our energy was down and we couldn't figure it out. Give Drexel credit. They are certainly a better team than their record indicates. They are healthy and they are back with a full roster. We still have 15 games left (in the conference season) and another difficult game on the road on Sunday. We have to learn from it and move on." – Coach Grant on the play of Marquise Pointer and Evan Bailey off the bench against Drexel
"It's more mental prep for us. We will travel down to Baltimore and get some time to practice. We will game plan more than anything else. We just played them (Towson) and will try to find a way to be successful on Sunday. It's a quick turnaround for us. We play at 2 o'clock and we have be ready and be able to play the game." – Coach Grant on the preparation for Towson after seeing the Tigers nine days ago in the league opener
