CAA Tournament Pairings Revealed: Men Open with UNCW, Women Get UD

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Colonial Athletic Association revealed the seedings and pairings today for this weekend's CAA Tennis Tournament, revealing both the CofC men's and women's tennis programs had earned No. 6 seeds.
The men (7-11) will play their quarterfinal matchup against No. 3 seeded UNCW (16-4) at Elon's Jimmy Powell Tennis Center. The women (16-10) open up their tournament against No. 3 seeded Delaware (12-5) just up the road at the Burlington Tennis Center.
Both matches are slated to begin at 1 p.m. on Friday, and live stats will be made available for both encounters at CAA Sports.
"We're looking forward to being part of another competitive CAA Tournament," Director of Tennis Angelo Anastopoulo said. "For both our men's and our women's teams, this is what the entire season builds towards, and this is where you look for a whole year's worth of hard work to pay off. Anything can happen in the postseason, which is what makes it so exciting."
The women's team will face off against the Blue Hens for just the second time on record. In their only previous encounter back in 2015 at Patriots Point, the Cougars rolled to a 7-0 win. This year, Delaware has reached their highest win-total since going 13-5 way back in 2011, although they've gone 7-4 in matches away from home. Their ace Brooke Pilkington has been absolutely dominant in the No. 1 singles spot with a 14-2 record on the year.
The men's squad faces off against UNCW for the first time since last season's CAA Semifinals, when the Seahawks outlasted the Cougars for a 4-2 win despite singles wins by Juan Estevarena and Benedikt Henning, both of whom return to the tournament for the College. Despite a sterling 16-4 record on the season, UNCW has struggled as of late, dropping two of their last four matches to end the year. Michael Copeland has been the most consistent player on the team with a 15-4 singles record in the flight four position.
If the women advance past UD, they'll play the winner of No. 2 James Madison and No. 7 UNCW. If the men move on past the Seahawks, they'd square off with the winner of No. 2 Elon and No. 7 Hofstra. Both matches would take place on Saturday at Elon's Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.
