Series Preview
The Cougars and Pride meet for the 14th time on Friday, with Charleston holding a 9-4 advantage in the all-time series after taking two-of-three at Patriots Point last season.
Last Time Out
The Cougars were unable to overcome a 6-0 deficit at Georgia Southern on Tuesday evening despite a three-run seventh, and a lead-off home run by Ari Sechopoulos in the ninth that closed the gap to 6-4. Danny Wondrack plated two with a two-out double in the seventh, and Brian Rourke held the Eagles off the board for four innings to keep the Cougars within striking distance.
Two-way Stud
After making his primary contributions on the mound to this point in the season, Clay Hunt proved he can make noise at the plate as well with a 5-for-11 weekend that included two home runs and three RBIs. For his efforts, Hunt was named Co-CAA Player of the Week on Monday.
Primetime Arm
Nathan Ocker has been nothing short of magnificent out of the bullpen this season, surrendering just three runs in 31 and one-third innings while coming into the week with a WHIP of 0.64. The junior right-hander has not surrendered a run in 21 and one-third consecutive innings, and in that span, has allowed only 16 base runners.
Leading the Pack
The Cougars come into the week leading the CAA in nearly every offensive category, batting .287 as a team with 211 runs scored, 65 doubles, 39 home runs, and 55 stolen bases, while combining for a .444 slugging percentage. CofC also leads the CAA with a 2.79 team ERA, and has allowed the least number of home runs (12).
Scouting Hofstra
Hofstra enters the weekend with a 14-15 overall record and a 4-8 mark in CAA play following its six straight loss at the hands of St. John's on Wednesday. The Pride are batting .241 as a team with 16 home runs, while holding teams to a .220 clip and sporting a 3.62 ERA.
Vito Friscia leads the Pride with five home runs, 22 RBIs, and a .312 batting average. Friday's starter, John Rooney, comes into the weekend with a 5-0 record, a 1.13 ERA, and 71 strikeouts in 56 innings.
