GAME PREVIEW
The College of Charleston men's basketball team (1-0) continues its three-game homestand with Georgia State (1-0) on Saturday, Nov. 9 at 2 p.m. (ET) at TD Arena. The Cougars were picked No. 17 in this week's CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top 25 Poll – the only team representing the Colonial Athletic Association. They started the year off with a 74-55 season-opening victory over USC Upstate on Nov. 5 behind a game-high 26-point effort from preseason CAA Player of the Year and Lute Olson Award candidate Grant Riller. Ten players saw action against the Spartans including three freshmen, Trevon Reddish (five points), DeAngelo Epps and Brenden Tucker, who all made their collegiate debuts. The Cougars dominated the glass in their last outing with 43 boards including 11 on the offensive end. Known for their defense and holding opponents to under 60 points a game, they also held Upstate to 35.7 shooting from the field and 30.0 percent shooting from long range. Georgia State comes into the contest with size and length on its roster with two freshmen post players standing at 6-foot-9 and 6-foot-10. Damon Wilson, a senior guard, recorded a career-high 22 points in the Panthers' 104-35 rout of NAIA-member Brewton-Parker College on Nov. 6. COUGAR SOUND BITES
"We have a really great schedule. They (Georgia State) have been to the NCAA Tournament two of the last three years. They have good players. It's going to be a challenge for us and I'm excited about it. Anytime you have a challenge, there is great opportunity. We will certainly have to play much better than we did against USC Upstate. We had three days to work on some things in order to get ready for the game. They are definitely a talented team. I hope our crowd can make it a hostile environment on Saturday." – Head Coach Earl Grant on Georgia State
"We are just starting our journey. This team has never been together before. There is a lot to be excited about this season. But, there is still a lot to find out. When you go on a journey, you are going to find some things out. I was glad we were able to win the first one. We have another good team coming in here on Saturday. We have to be prepared for them. We will try to go fight and live to see another day." – Coach Grant on starting off the season with a win against USC Upstate and learning from the first game
"Georgia State is a much different opponent than USC Upstate. We've watched film and learned what we did well and what we need to do better from that game. We've had a couple of days to get ready for a good team. It was big time to get the first game under our belt. The first game, you never know how it will go. We got the kinks out. It felt good to start the season on the right foot with a win." – Senior Guard Grant Riller on prepping for Georgia State after the season-opening win over USC Upstate
