Mt. Pleasant, S.C. – Freshman Carli McCants worked four innings of one-hit relief to lead the College of Charleston to an 8-1 win over Maine and the second of two wins at the Holy City Showdown on Friday at Patriots Point.
Drayton Siegling scattered eight hits over six innings in a 6-1 victory over Campbell in the Cougars' first game of the day. Charleston (7-9) plays twice more on Saturday, facing Chattanooga at 3:45 and Maine again at 6:00.
McCants relieved Summer Jenkins with two on and nobody out in the fourth. The Black Bears managed to score once to cut their deficit to 3-1, but McCants slammed the door shut the rest of the way. She struck out eight, including three in the fifth and two in the sixth, for her first collegiate win.
Gracyn Thrasher had two hits and drove in two runs, and Brittany Vicary also had two hits and scored three times.
In the first game, Siegling earned her third straight win despite getting into several jams. She got three ground outs with runners and second and third and nobody out in the second, and induced a 6-4-3 double play to end a fourth inning that began with the bases loaded with no outs.
A sacrifice fly by Lexee Emanuel and two-run single from Alondra Vicary keyed a three-run third that gave Charleston a 4-1 lead. Yari Felix had two hits, drove in two runs and scored twice to pace the Cougar attack.
