CHARLESTON, S.C. – Tyler Collins scored 19 points to lead all five College of Charleston starters in double figures as the Cougars (5-3, 1-1 CAA) downed William & Mary, 69-66, to earn a split of its series at TD Arena.
Collins made 7-of-8 from the free throw line, including two with nine seconds left to seal the victory after the Tribe (6-7, 3-5) trimmed a nine-point deficit with 1:25 remaining down to three.
Arynn Eady had her second straight double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds and finished the weekend with 25 points, 25 rebounds and eight blocked shots.
Tyler Gray had 15 points,
Chelsea Wooten scored 11 in her first career start and
Amira Williams finished with 10. Gray and Williams both had eight rebounds as CofC dominated the glass with a 50-30 edge, and Wooten also contributed four assists and a pair of steals.
CofC jumped out to a 19-5 lead behind eight points each by Eady and Wooten and never trailed. Collins had 10 of her 19 in the second quarter as the Cougars took a 39-32 lead into the locker room, and a layup by Eady with 4:17 left in the third period rebuilt the margin to 48-37.
After Sydney Wagner pulled William & Mary within 67-64 with 10 seconds left, Collins made her two clutch free throws, and Williams rejected a 3-pointer by Wagner to keep the Tribe at arms' length.
Wagner led the Tribe with 28 points, and Bailey Eichner had 13 points and 10 rebounds. In addition to their work on the boards, the Cougar defense held the Tribe to just 37.1 percent shooting from the floor.
CofC remains home next weekend against James Madison. The Saturday and Sunday contests both tip off at 1 p.m.
