CHARLESTON, S.C. --- The College of Charleston baseball team welcomes UNCW to Patriots Point this weekend to resume its Colonial Athletic Association schedule in a crucial series for both teams. First pitch on Friday evening is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.

Series Preview
The Cougars enter the weekend with a 5-10 overall record and a 2-1 mark in CAA play after sweeping a doubleheader with William & Mary on Mar. 13 to open CAA play with a series victory over the Tribe. UNCW comes into the weekend with a 12-6 record and a is 1-2 in conference action after falling to the Tribe, 2-1, in Williamsburg, Va. last weekend.

Scouting the Seahawks
The Seahawks were picked to finish first in the CAA South Division after posting an 11-5 record in the COVID-19 shortened 2020 campaign. UNCW leads the CAA with 19 home runs this season including a joint league-best five long balls each from Brooks Baldwin and Matt Suggs.

Kip Brandenburg paces the Seahawk offense with a .382 batting average to go along with three homers, eight doubles and 11 RBI. Saturday starter Luke Gesell is 2-1 on the season with a 2.73 ERA and 21 strikeouts in five starts.

Last Time Out
The Cougars fell to Coastal Carolina, 8-7, in a back-and-forth midweek battle on Tuesday evening in Conway, S.C. Ari Sechpoulos and Brody Hopkins drove in six of the Cougars' seven runs as Sechopoulos launched two homers and Hopkins sparked the offense with a third-inning three-run bomb.

Turning Two
The Cougars' infield has been one of the nation's best at capitalizing on the double play ball this spring entering the weekend tied for the national lead with Holy Cross averaging 1.20 twin kills per game. Charleston ranks seventh nationally with 18 total double plays – four behind national leader Texas Tech.

Finding His Form
Sechopoulos put together his best performance of the season on Tuesday at Coastal Carolina, reaching base four times in a 3-for-3 effort highlighted by his first collegiate multi-homer game. After sending a solo shot over the wall in the sixth, the senior first baseman tied the game with a two-out, two-run bomb.
