CHARLESTON, S.C. --- The College of Charleston baseball team welcomes UNCW to Patriots Point this weekend to resume its Colonial Athletic Association schedule in a crucial series for both teams. First pitch on Friday evening is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
Series Preview
The Cougars enter the weekend with a 5-10 overall record and a 2-1 mark in CAA play after sweeping a doubleheader with William & Mary on Mar. 13 to open CAA play with a series victory over the Tribe. UNCW comes into the weekend with a 12-6 record and a is 1-2 in conference action after falling to the Tribe, 2-1, in Williamsburg, Va. last weekend.
Scouting the Seahawks
The Seahawks were picked to finish first in the CAA South Division after posting an 11-5 record in the COVID-19 shortened 2020 campaign. UNCW leads the CAA with 19 home runs this season including a joint league-best five long balls each from Brooks Baldwin and Matt Suggs.
Kip Brandenburg paces the Seahawk offense with a .382 batting average to go along with three homers, eight doubles and 11 RBI. Saturday starter Luke Gesell is 2-1 on the season with a 2.73 ERA and 21 strikeouts in five starts.
