CHARLESTON, S.C. --- The College of Charleston baseball team will welcome the No. 23 Alabama Crimson Tide to Patriots Point this weekend for a crucial weekend series marking the first meeting between the two teams since 2010. First pitch on Friday is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. with Charleston southpaw Jordan Carr taking the ball opposite Alabama right-hander Tyler Ras.
Weekend Preview
The Cougars have dropped five games in a row after opening the season with back-to-back wins. Alabama carries an 8-1 record into the weekend and have won four straight after defeating Troy on Wednesday and sweeping Wright State last weekend.
Scouting Alabama
The Crimson Tide were picked to finish 12th overall and seventh in the SEC after posting a 16-1 record during the pandemic-shortened 2020 season. Alabama ranks among the nation's leaders with 15 home runs through nine games.
Zane Denton leads the Tide with a .411 batting average to go along with four homers and eight RBI while Peyton Wilson has also mashed four long balls. Saturday starter Dylan Smith has fanned 12 batters in 10.1 innings thus far while compiling a 1.74 ERA without yet earning a decision.

Charleston freshman Brody Hopkins has made a tremendous impact in the first five games of his collegiate career, entering the week batting .316 with one home run, three doubles and five RBI. The Summerville High School product launched his first career homer – a three-run shot – on Sunday to give the Cougars an early 3-1 lead. Hopkins has hit safely in four of five games he has appeared in thus far.
Making the Transition
Freshman right-hander Ty Good has made a smooth transition to the starting rotation this season with a 2.53 ERA and 15 strikeouts in 10.2 innings of work over two starts. The Rock Hill, S.C. native has allowed three runs on only five hits in his first two collegiate starts while holding opponents to a .139 batting average.
