Incoming Freshman Appleman Named Gatorade Player of the Year

CHICAGO --- Incoming freshman outside hitter Emma Appleman (Guilford, Conn.) has been named the Gatorade Connecticut Player of the Year after leading Guilford High School to a 14-0 record this season announced Gatorade last week.
The award, which recognizes not only outstanding athletic excellence, but also high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the field, recognizes Appleman as Connecticut's best high school volleyball player. As the Connecticut Player of the Year, Appleman is now a finalist for the prestigious Gatorade National Player of the Year award to be announced later this month.
Appleman recorded 217 kills, 93 digs and 32 service aces this season while leading the Grizzles to an unblemished 14-0 record. The 5-foot-10 outside hitter was also recognized as the GameTimeCT Player of the Year while garnering Southern Connecticut Conference Player of the Year and All-State First Team honors.
She has donated her time during the pandemic delivering groceries to quarantined and home-bound members of the community and has also volunteered on behalf of several area youth basketball and volleyball programs. A standout in the classroom as well, Appleman has maintained a 3.89 grade point average and will join the Cougars this fall.
