MT. PLEASANT, S.C. – Kylie Burke and Payton Lemire held the powerful James Madison offense in check before the 24th-ranked Dukes scored five times in their final two at bats for a 6-0 victory Sunday at Patriots Point.
Burke started and allowed one run on three hits over the first three innings and then re-entered to get the last two outs of the seventh, including a strikeout against the final batter she faced in her career.
Lemire relieved Burke to start the fourth and gave up only one hit in two scoreless frames. JMU (30-1, 17-1 CAA) added a run in the sixth and got back-to-back homers from Odicci Alexander and Hannah Shifflett in a four-run seventh.
Alexander earned her second win of the series with a one-hitter and 11 strikeouts.
