CHARLESTON, S.C. – College of Charleston looks to complete a sweep of its home-and-home series against Norfolk State when the Spartans visit TD Arena on Sunday at 6 p.m.
Charleston won in Norfolk, 66-62, last November in the first meeting between the teams since 1976 and third overall. The Cougars trailed by two with under five minutes remaining before a 9-0 run gave them the lead for good en route to taking a 2-0 lead in the all-time series.
Charleston opened its season with an 89-30 win over Meredith on Monday at TD Arena behind 25 points by Jenna Annecchiarico and 15 from USC Upstate transfer Jada Logan. Freshman Alexis Andrews scored 11 points and tied Annecchiarico with six steals in her collegiate debut.
Adaora Onwumelu, in her first game as a Cougar after transferring from Auburn, led all rebounders with 10.
The Cougars were scheduled to play at North Florida on Thursday, but that game was postponed due to the threat of Hurricane Nicole.
Norfolk State posted the largest margin in school history with a 125-19 win over Virginia-Lynchburg in its opener before hanging tough with Penn State in a 67-61 loss. Kierra Wheeler is averaging a double-double through two games with 10.0 ppg and 10.5 rpg.
