MONTGOMERY, ALA. – College of Charleston pitching allowed only four earned runs against Austin Peay and Alabama State, but the Cougars still dropped both contests on Saturday at the Stinger Classic in Montgomery, Ala.
Payton Lemire surrendered one hit in four shutout innings in a 2-1 loss to the Governors in Charleston's first game of the day, and
McKenna Kelly tossed a complete game in a 3-1 defeat to the host Hornets, with one of the runs against her being unearned.
Aniz Roman had two hits in both games, including a double, to pace the Cougar offense.Â

Payton Lemire relieved
Drayton Siegling in the fourth inning against Austin Peay and allowed one hit with two strikeouts in four innings.

McKenna Kelly fanned three in six innings for her first career complete game. Kelly's previous high in innings pitched was three against UNCW last April 17.

Aniz Roman reached base five times on the day with three singles, a double and HBP.
GAME NOTES
•   The Cougar roster includes three players with the last name of Carter (Jenna, Kelli Anne and Camden) and all three started against Alabama State.
•   Freshmen
Kelli Anne Carter and
Chloe Valdez both had their first career hits against the Hornets.
•   Valdez and freshman
Natalie Windham also stole their first career bases, with Valdez scoring the run against Alabama State.
•   The game against Austin Peay was just the second in the series following a 9-1 Charleston win in 1999. It was the first meeting with Alabama State.
