NEWARK, DELAWARE – Charleston
won its second road game in three days on Thursday, erupting for 99 points in a 99-96 victory over Delaware in Newark. The Cougars improved to 8-8 in CAA play and 16-12 overall as CofC scored its most points in a league game since Feb. 24, 2018 at William & Mary.
All 10 Cougars who saw the floor found the scoring column on a night CofC shot 50 percent from the field, hit 11 3-pointers and made 20-of-25 at the charity stripe. The Cougars never trailed and led for 39:32 of gameclock. Four Cougars reached double figures with
Reyne Smith pouring in a game-high 22 points on six 3-pointers.
Junior
Brenden Tucker added 18 points on seven made field goals and senior
Dimitrius Underwood chipped in 14 points, 11 rebounds, eight assists and two steals to snag his third double-double in the last four games. CofC has now won seven road games this season, including four its last five with wins at Northeastern, William & Mary, Elon and Delaware.
Freshman
Raekwon Horton led another great effort from the bench with a career-high 15 points and four steals. Charleston's reserves scored 30 points and they've outscored opponents' bench players by 129 combined points over the last eight games.
CofC set the tone from the tip with Tucker taking the ball right to the rack for a bucket within the first few seconds. Charleston would go on to build a 27-15 edge on the back of hot shooting and tough defense. Tucker's strong finish to beat the halftime buzzer gave CofC a 49-32 edge at the break.
Delaware was scorching hot from the field in the second half, shooting 72 percent and hitting seven threes. CofC responded to multiple runs with clutch triples from Smith and a pair of monster dunks from freshmen
Ben Burnham and
Babacar Faye. After CofC got up 12 with a couple minutes remaining, Delaware hit a flurry of threes on an 11-0 run to slice the deficit to one, but Smith and Tucker combined to hit six key free throws to ice the game and seal Charleston's wild high-scoring win.

- Freshman Reyne Smith matched his career-high with six threes and hit the game-winning free throws to wind up with 22 points.
