Cougars Top Elon, Roll Into CAA Semis for First Time Since 2014

Charleston Snaps 15-Game Losing Streak to Elon

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- The No. 5 seeded College of Charleston women's basketball team built a 16-point lead and then used defense and clutch scoring to hold on in a 70-59 victory over No. 4 seed Elon in the CAA Tournament Quarterfinals on Friday in Philadelphia.

CofC finished the game on an 8-0 run after leading just 62-59 with 1:35 to play. The Cougars outscored Elon 41-33 in the second half after leading by three points at intermission.

The Cougars improve to 18-12 on the season and pick up their 10th overall CAA win. Charleston heads to the CAA Tournament Semifinals for just the second time since joining the conference and the first time since 2014.

Charleston also snapped a 15-game losing streak to the Phoenix. After picking up the win over Elon on Friday, head coach Robin Harmony has now defeated every other team in the Colonial Athletic Association.

Coach Harmony on the win:
"I'm really proud of our team," head coach Robin Harmony said after the game. "The first and second quarters of a tournament opener can be tough, but we hung in there. In the second half, our kids just decided to really 'D up' and we turned them over 20 times. Arynn Eady had a double-double and showed why she's the defensive player of the year. She just does so much for us."

 Arynn Eady postgame:
"The coaches gave us the gameplan and we just followed it," senior forward Arynn Eady said. "Our shots weren't falling in the first half, but we just stuck together and more shot started falling in the second half.
