CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston Men's Basketball program inked NAIA All-American Jaylon Scott on Wednesday, head coach
Pat Kelsey announced. Scott was named a two-time KCAC Player of the Year and three-time Defensive Player of the Year, and was tabbed for 2022 first team All-American honors by the NAIA, Basketball Times magazine and the National Association of Basketball Coaches. He was a finalist for the 2022 NAIA National Player of the Year, given to Marquette signee Zach Wrightsil.
Scott is a 6-foot-5 graduate transfer who shined at Bethel College, etching his mark on the record books over four stellar seasons. The Allen, Texas, native averaged 19.2 points per game and 11.5 rebounds per game in 2021-22, finishing his senior campaign with 691 points, 206 assists and 414 rebounds.
Scott is a two-time First-Team All-American. In 2021-22, he ranked second nationally in rebounds and fourth nationally in boards per game as a senior. He was sixth nationally in assists and seventh in steals with 95 swipes while getting to the line 273 times (12
th nationally).
"Jaylon is a physical, gifted and versatile athlete who is an elite defender and rebounder," Kelsey said. "He can pass and score like a guard, but his size, physicality and rebounding is that of a forward. 'Versatile' describes him best for sure. Jaylon can guard multiple positions as well which is an extremely valuable skill."
Scott shot 44.7 percent from the floor and hit 38 triples while starting in every game during a 28-8 season that saw Bethel reach the NAIA Round of 16. He racked up double figures 29 times in 36 games, including 22.3 points per game during Bethel's 3-game postseason run.
Scott was also tabbed a 2021 KCAC Scholar-Athlete, which is garnered by having at least a 3.25 cumulative GPA. He played high school hoops at Allen High School, where he started on the 6A Championship squad as a senior. After starring at Allen, Scott made an immediate impact at NAIA Bethel. The Threshers went from 7-22 the year prior to Scott's arrival to 28-8 by his senior season in 2021-22.
Scott joins a host of talented newcomers to sign at CofC this spring, including Div. II stars Ante Brzovic (SE Oklahoma State) and Pat Robinson III (West Liberty), Wofford transfer Ryan Larson and incoming freshman Jordan Crawford.
