CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston returns to the diamond this weekend for a three-game CAA series against long-time rival Elon.
The Cougars and Phoenix play a doubleheader on Saturday at noon and a single game on Sunday at 1 at the Hunt Softball Park in Elon.
The series dates back to 1999 and includes meetings as CAA and Southern Conference members with Charleston holding a 32-29 lead. Elon has won seven in a row and is 14-12 against the Cougars at home.
Jenna Helberg has been one of the hottest hitters in the CAA, riding a six-game streak during which she is 10-for-18 (.556) with eight RBI. She has homered in the last three conference games and has five on the year while also leading the team with 10 doubles, 19 RBI and a .629 slugging percentage.
Jenna Carter is fourth in the CAA with a .385 average and second with a .524 on-base percentage. Mia Dittoe has been swinging a hot bat, hitting safely in 10 of her last 14 games with 14 hits over that span.
Elon is 18-17 and 1-5 in the CAA. Rebecca Murray leads the Phoenix with a .368 average and tops the CAA with 19 stolen bases in 20 attempts. Gabi Schaal is the conference leader with 35 RBI to go along with eight home runs.
McKenzie Weber is third in the league with a 2.09 ERA, and Taylor Cherry has struck out a team-high 64 batters.
