MT. PLEASANT, S.C. - The College of Charleston softball team split two games between Boston University and Tennessee Tech Saturday evening. The win over TTU gave the Cougars their first win of the season.
Caroline Conner pitched a complete game en route to her first career win. She struck out five batters and didn't allow a run over the final four innings.
Mary-Kathryn Scott drove the Cougar offense with two RBIs in a 2-3 night at the plate. The rookie also made a diving play in the top of the fifth to stop a runner from reaching second base.
Back-to-back RBIs in the fourth from fellow freshmen Brooke Tranum and Halle Cannon added insurance runs while Tranum recorded her first career triple.
Malaka Belser powered the defense behind the plate, catching two runners stealing second to provide crucial outs for the Cougars.
Junior Lauren Sandor stepped into the circle for the first time this season, retiring four straight batters and striking out two with one earned run.
"We kept telling the team to stay the course and trust the process," said head coach Tracey Lynch. "The win tonight truly felt like a team win. My hope is that this gives them confidence knowing they can get the job done together."
