CHARLESTON, S.C. - The College of Charleston softball team fell to Furman Wednesday night by scores of 5-4 and 3-0 at Patriots Point.
Karlee Hughes gave CofC an early lead when she singled in the bottom of the first frame to bring in the first run.
The Cougar offense got its spark in the third frame starting with a Mary-Kathryn Scott RBI double to make it a 2-0 game. Mia Dittoe immediately followed up with single to left center that brought home two more runs.
Caroline Conner pitched four scoreless innings and did not allow a hit until the fifth frame. However, the Paladins scored two each in the fifth and sixth to tie the game and send it to extra innings where Furman scored the deciding run in the top of the eighth.
Payton Lemire pitched four straight scoreless innings to start game two and only allowed one earned run across all seven innings.
The game proved to be a pitcher's duel as the Cougars were only able to record two hits, giving the Paladins the doubleheader sweep.
