Cougars picked fourth in Coaches’ Poll, Wierzbicki tabbed Preseason All-CAA

RICHMOND, Va. – College of Charleston senior Lexi Wierzbicki earned Preseason All-CAA honors for a second-straight season and the Cougars were picked fourth in the annual Coaches' Poll, as announced Wednesday by the league office.
A native of Easley, S.C., Wierzbicki has earned First Team All-CAA honors, Player of the Week and now back-to-back Preseason All-CAA nods in her time donning the maroon and gold. Wierzbicki led all Cougar returners in kills/set (2.65) with 223 total last season and is just 23 kills shy of reaching 1,000 in her collegiate career.
Meanwhile the College of Charleston received the fourth-most votes in the poll of the league's 12 head coaches with 83 points total. Four-time champion Towson was selected as the preseason favorite with 11 first-place votes and 121 points while Delaware (102 points), Hofstra (99 points), Charleston (83) and Northeastern (81 points, 1 first-place vote) round-out the top five.
The 2023 CAA Volleyball Championships are set for Nov. 16-18 at SECU Arena at Towson.
The Cougars host South Carolina Saturday in an exhibition with first serve set for 3 p.m.
Charleston officially opens the 2023 season Friday, August 25 in a 7 p.m. battle with Davidson to open the CofC Classic before taking on Division I newcomer Le Moyne and West Virginia the following day.
