CHARLESTON, S.C. – College of Charleston looks for its third-straight CAA series victory this weekend when the Cougars host Monmouth at Patriots Point.
The teams open the series Friday at 4 p.m. followed by games Saturday at 2 p.m. and Sunday at 11:45 a.m. Sunday is Kids Day with the first 100 children receiving a pair of Charleston sunglasses. A face painter will be at the field, and the players will participate in a postgame autograph session.
Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for youths each day.
The series begins a seven-game homestand for the Cougars which includes a midweek rematch against Charleston Southern on Tuesday and three against William & Mary next weekend. Following this stretch, the Cougars play only one more home CAA series this season against Northeastern on May 10-12.
The Cougars are tied for third in the CAA with a 6-3 conference record after sweeping Stony Brook and taking two of three against UNCW on the road the past two weekends. Overall, Charleston has won seven of its last eight to improve to 21-10.
Monmouth started league play with a sweep of Towson before losing five of six the past two weeks against Northeastern and William & Mary. The Hawks are tied for seventh in the CAA at 4-5 and are 9-17 overall.
This is the second all-time series between the Cougars and Hawks after Charleston took all three in West Long Branch, N.J., a year ago. Charleston's bats exploded for 43 runs and had nine extra base hits in two of the games.
Luke Wood keyed a 21-2 win in the opener when he became the seventh Cougar in school history and the first in 11 years to hit three home runs in a game. Cole Mathis blasted a pair of three-run shots in a 10-2 victory in the middle game, and Wood and Mathis again homered in a 12-6 win to finish the sweep.
