CHARLESTON, S.C. – College of Charleston concludes the regular season with a CAA series at Elon beginning Thursday at 4 p.m.
The opening game was moved up two hours due to the possibility of rain later in the evening. The Cougars and Phoenix continue the series Friday at 6 p.m. and Saturday at 1 p.m.
Following the series at Elon, Charleston is off until next Thursday when it plays its first game in the CAA Tournament in Wilmington against an opponent to be determined. The Cougars have already clinched at least second place and a first round bye.
The Cougars (36-12, 18-5 CAA) are one-half game behind UNCW in the chase for the regular season title with the Seahawks concluding their season at Delaware, which is currently fourth. Elon (21-29, 10-14) is tied for eighth with the top six qualifying for the postseason.
Charleston has won seven consecutive CAA series and is 17-3 in conference play over that stretch. The Cougars, winners of 22 of their last 25 overall, have won at least 36 games in 16 of the past 22 full seasons and are seeking the seventh 40-win program in program history.
The Cougars and Phoenix are longtime rivals, having squared off as members of both the Southern Conference and CAA. Charleston holds a 41-31 lead in the all-time series, but Elon won three of four at Patriots Point last year including a 10-5 victory in the CAA Tournament.
Prior to that, the Cougars had won five in a row including a sweep at Elon in April 2022.
