CHARLESTON, S.C. – A series with CAA Tournament seeding implications takes place this weekend at Patriots Point when College of Charleston hosts Northeastern.
The Cougars and Huskies open the important conference set Friday at 4 p.m. followed by games on Saturday at 2 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m. Prior to the series finale, the Charleston baseball program will hold its Senior Day ceremonies.
Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for youths each day.
The Cougars are in second place in the CAA with a 16-4 record and can clinch one of the top two seeds and a first-round bye by winning the series against the third-place Huskies (14-7). UNCW (17-4), which hosts Elon this weekend, has a half-game lead over Charleston.
The regular season concludes next week with the Cougars traveling to Elon, UNCW visiting Delaware and Northeastern hosting Stony Brook. The top six teams qualify for the conference tournament, which begins Wednesday, May 22 in Wilmington.
The Cougars (34-11 overall) have won 20 of their last 22 overall and are 15-2 in conference play in their last six series. Northeastern (33-13 overall) started 9-2 in the CAA but has split its last 10 including a series loss at NC A&T last weekend.
The Huskies hold a 17-13 lead in the series, but the Cougars have won eight of 12 at Patriots Point. Northeastern won two of three in Boston a year ago, with Cole Mathis hitting two home runs and driving in four in a 9-2 Charleston victory in the finale.
The teams met five times in 2022 with the Cougars taking all three in the regular season series at Patriots Point and the Huskies winning both matchups in the CAA Tournament in Elon.
