Morgan Scott Named to Cougar Softball Coaching Staff

CHARLESTON, S.C. - Former Oregon and UNCG standout pitcher Morgan Scott, a native of Irmo, S.C., has been added to the College of Charleston softball staff, head coach Tracey Lynch announced Thursday.
Scott spent her final two seasons with the Ducks after three years with the Spartans. She was twice named to the NFCA All-Pacific Region team and was on the first team in 2023 when she led the Pac-12 and ranked sixth in the nation with seven saves.
That season she also won 13 games including a two-hit shutout over No. 3 UCLA and another win over No. 7 Stanford. Scott had two-year totals of 23 wins and six shutouts while ranking second in Oregon history with 12 saves.
"I am thrilled to have Coach Scott join our staff. She is passionate about the game and more specifically excited to help develop our pitchers," said Lynch.
Scott played at UNCG from 2020-22 with the first two coming with Lynch as her pitching coach. She was a two-time Southern Conference Pitcher of the Year as well as Freshman of the Year in 2021 when she helped the Spartans win the regular season and tournament titles and earn a berth to the Athens Regional.
"I've had the pleasure of knowing Morgan as an athlete and competitor over the past six years," added Lynch. "I know she will bring several intangible qualities to the table as she steps into the new role of coach.
"Morgan was absolutely fierce in the circle with a no-quit mentality. I know she is looking forward to being in the bullpen with our pitchers to help them reach new heights both physically and mentally."
Scott started 79 games in three seasons at UNCG and accumulated 58 complete games, 53 wins and 11 shutouts while striking out 602 batters, the second most in school history. In 2022 she ranked second in the nation with 249 innings pitched as well as ninth with 25 wins and a school-record 286 strikeouts.
"It's an honor to bring Coach Scott back to her home state to begin her coaching career," said Lynch. "Her aspirations are to become a pitching coach, and she will get plenty of experience doing just that – from the planning stages to orchestrating bullpens, conversing with pitchers and catchers between innings and throwing live to our offense."
