RICHMOND, Va. – College of Charleston freshman
Caroline Noonan was named the Coastal Athletic Association Co-Defensive Player of the Week Monday.
The middle blocker shared the weekly award with North Carolina A&T's Leonor Polezzi.
Noonan is the first CAA volleyball player since at least 2013 to secure conference Offensive Player, Defensive Player and Rookie of the Week honors in the same season.
Noonan played a key role in guiding CofC to its first sweep of Northeastern on the road, totaling 14 blocks and averaging 1.00 digs per set. Noonan also tacked on 20 kills and a .405 attacking percentage. In Saturday's victory, Noonan tallied four digs and six blocks, helping hold the Huskies to a .150 hitting percentage. On Sunday, the freshman collected eight blocks and four digs to go along with 14 kills and a .462 attacking percentage, holding Northeastern to a .160 mark.
Noonan earned her third conference weekly honor after being named Rookie of the Week Sept. 15 and Offensive Player of the Week Sept. 29. Noonan is one of three Charleston freshmen to earn a weekly award this year, joining
Jumana Martin and
Makena Parthen. Martin has also earned Rookie and Defensive Player of the Week honors, earning the awards Oct. 6 and 13, respectively.
Entering the weekend with a 7-3 record in the CAA, Charleston continues league play Oct. 24-25 at home against UNCW. Serve times from TD Arena are set for 6 p.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday will be the 'Monster Match' Halloween Day where kids are encouraged to wear their best costumes for a costume contest. All home volleyball matches are free of charge.
