
Brooks and Bullpen Lead Charleston to Victory

STATESBORO, Ga. – Redshirt junior Daniel Brooks allowed two runs in 5.2 innings as the Cougars beat Georgia Southern, 6-3, Tuesday evening at J. I. Clements Stadium.
Charleston improves to 6-2 on the season and have now hit a home run in five straight ballgames after graduate Avery Neaves left the ballpark in the fifth. With the loss, Georgia Southern falls to 4-4.
Senior Dariyan Pendergrass went 2-for-3 with 3 runs scored, 2 stolen bases and a hit by pitch in the victory.

CRITICAL POINTS AGAINST GEORGIA SOUTHERN:
- The Cougars took the lead in the fifth and never looked back, plating three more runs in the sixth.
- Graduate Will Baumhofer's two-run, two-out single made it a 5-2 contest.
- Charleston added an insurance run in the eighth when Pendergrass scored his third run on a passed ball.
- Brooks fanned five batters across his 5.2 innings of work, allowing just two runs on five hits and one walk.
- Redshirt freshman Kevin Samonsky tossed 2.1 scoreless frames before handing the ball off to senior Davis Aiken in the ninth.
- Redshirt junior Ethan Plyler went 3-for-5 at the plate in the victory.
OF NOTE:
- Charleston now holds a 40-39 lead in the all-time series with Georgia Southern and are victorious in five of the last six contests against the Eagles.
- Charleston improves to 62-35 in night games (5 p.m. or later) under head coach Chad Holbrook. The Cougars are also 181-18 when outhitting their opponent under Holbrook.
- Brooks' 5.2 innings was his longest outing since April 2, 2022, when the righty went 6.0 frames against Hofstra.
- Pendergrass swiped two bags, giving him eight in eight contests. Charleston has stolen 23 bases this season and 12 in the last three games.
- Pendergrass also tied his career-high with three runs scored, initially established on April 2, 2024, against Georgia Southern.
- Neaves launched his first home run of the season 108 mph off the bat with an estimated distance of 398 feet.
- Sophomore Schley Gordy made his Charleston debut in the win.
