MT PLEASANT, S.C. – Redshirt junior Daniel Brooks threw seven innings for the second weekend in a row as College of Charleston baseball earned the series win over Delaware, 9-3, Saturday afternoon at Patriots Point.
 
The Cougars improve to 21-12 and 7-4 in the CAA while Delaware falls to 17-16 and 5-6 in league action.
 
Redshirt junior Ethan Plyler collected four RBI in the win, going 2-for-4 at the dish. Senior Ben Venables continued to swing a hot bat, going 2-for-4 with two runs scored and a hit by pitch.

CRITICAL POINTS AGAINST DELAWARE:
- After jumping out to a 2-0 lead following a Delaware throwing error in the first, CofC put up a three-spot in the second for a 5-0 advantage.
- Freshman Landon Penfield drew a bases loaded walk before Plyler singled home a pair to cap off the frame.
- Charleston scored two runs in the win on bases loaded free passes and a third on a bases loaded hit by pitch.
- Four different Cougars each scored twice Saturday.
- CofC drew 12 walks and were hit four times.
- Brooks fanned a season-high seven batters in the victory, allowing one run on three hits and no walks.
- Redshirt junior Alex Lyon came in to record the final six outs of the ballgame.
OF NOTE:
- Charleston is 25-10 in the all-time series against Delaware and 18-2 at home.
- Brooks tied his career high with seven innings of work, set last Saturday at Monmouth.
- Venables has two hits in each of the last three contests.
- Lyon made his 66th career appearance out of the bullpen.
- Brooks made his third Saturday start of the year, improving to 2-0 with a 1.80 ERA, striking out 18 batters across 20.0 frames.
- CofC's 12 walks; the second time this season drawing double-digit free passes.
- Charleston improves to 18-0 this season and 215-12 overall under head coach Chad Holbrook when leading after eight innings.
- CofC's pitching staff has a 3.00 ERA and 1.10 WHIP in the month of April, striking out 48 batters in 80 innings while allowing just 12 walks.
